SO, I think I'm a little rusty, because this project was thee biggest pain in thee ass! I had sort of forgotten, how much I dislike staining. My goodness, it is not easy. We literally had a season of issues because of our unfamiliarity of certain products and testing out different paints, spray paints, sanders, polymers, etc. Nonetheless, it was a great learning experience, and I was thrilled with the result!
Before:
I personally like this color, it just needed some touch up. I was going for a distressed white/cream look, until we sanded it. Turns out there was beautiful wood underneath, which we couldn't paint over. We then decided to stain it, to bring out the beautiful wood. I chose a Mahogany color. After much sanding, and trial coats of stain, we got a beautiful color. My husband, who specializes in concrete floor coatings, wanted to put a polymer glaze over it, to seal the wood.
After:
I planned on replacing the hardware, and had looked around at local shops. I decided I wanted to keep the existing hardware. After a little research on the proper way to paint metal, I decided to spray paint over it. Fortunately, it was a breeze sanding the hardware, and I found a great color at Home Depot. I saved a few bucks but keeping the existing hardware, and learned how to spray paint metal!
**One side note, nothing is perfect, and what you plan for sometimes just doesn't happen. I had originally painted the whole back of the hutch white. By accident, my husband knocked the hutch over, and dented the back MDF board. We then took it off completely, and I am actually happier with the result! Mistakes happen, but sometimes its for the best!
